About Lakelegends

Lakelegends is an online race series for sailors, windsurfers, kiters and foilers who would rather race when the conditions are right than when the calendar says so.

The marks are already there

Most lakes have fixed marks and buoys that stay in the same place all year round. That means the race course is out there every day, not only on regatta day. You don't have to wait for a regatta with perfect conditions and a full committee boat. Go out when the conditions suit you, sail the course, and still race against everyone else.

How a race works

Anyone with an account can create a race. The creator chooses the start and end date, draws the race on the map, and decides whether it is public (shown on the map for everyone) or invitation only (only people with the invite link can join). During that period, every sailor who joined uploads their GPS tracks, and the best result per sailor goes on the leaderboard.

Straight line speed

The creator draws a zone on a lake or an area at sea. Inside it, any direction is allowed. We look for the fastest 100 metres in your track, measured along the path you actually sailed.

Fastest lap

The creator places marks on the map, each with a zone around it (for example 30 metres). Your time starts when you pass the first mark and you must pass every mark in order. The creator chooses where it finishes: back at the first mark (a loop) or at the last mark (from A to B). Your fastest complete run counts.

Furthest distance

The total distance you sail inside the zone between the start and end of the race.

Fair play

Tracks are checked for GPS jumps before they are scored, and points that would need impossible speeds are ignored. Lakelegends is about racing with your own sails and muscles, so please only upload sessions you sailed yourself.
